It's a shame that the CIPD weren't that helpful, have you tried your local committee? there is normally a member of the committee who is assigned to help.

I definately think getting a CIPD qualification is a good idea, but you dont necessarily have to study for it! There are other options, like accredited learning.

I would suggest you get in contact with your local committee, even go along to an event...

Hi odedra what level is your degree? virtually all first degrees (BA/BSc) are not recognised by the CIPD because the Advanced Diploma is Level 7 (Masters), they do recognise some HR Masters but not all. I think they have stayed away from recognising any first degrees even though they have Level 5 qualifications as well, getting exemptions would be very time consuming and costly.

The thing is gaining a qualification and membership grades are two totally separate things now, you can gain a recognised HR Masters or the Advanced Diploma and still only be an Associate member (Assoc CIPD) - ok until 2014 newly qualified can be Graduates but this isn't a membership designation that you can use after your name. It all comes down to experience if you want to become a Chartered Member (MCIPD) then you will need about three years proven management experience.
